11 Weird Election Facts…

Well yesterday was election day in the United States & I am very proud to say that I voted for the first time!! I did not feel informed enough when President Obama ran for office the second time, however I was VERY proud of myself this time around!

I knew every single candidates name that was on the ballot and I knew why I was voting for them, or why I wasn't. This was a very important election and I feel if you didn't vote yesterday, you weren't really doing your part as a citizen!

However, Trump winning the Presidential election yesterday was not the only weird, or shocking thing to happen..... 11 weird facts about election day:

1. As the election results unfolded, the Canadian immigration site CRASHED!!!! [ VIA: Mashable ]

2. A 34-year-old woman named Ilhan Omar won her House of Representatives race in Minnesota, making her the first Somali-American member of Congress ever. She escaped from the Somali civil war when she was eight. [ VIA: StarTribune ]

3. And Catherine Cortez Masto became the first female Hispanic senator in history when she was elected in Nevada. [VIA: The Slot ]

4. Yesterday was big for WEED hahah. California, Nevada, Massachusetts, and Maine legalized recreational marijuana, and Florida and North Dakota legalized medical marijuana!!

5. Hundreds showed up at Susan B. Anthony's grave in Rochester yesterday (My home town wahoooo!), and put their "I Voted" stickers on her tombstone. [ VIA: VOX ]

6. A 71-year-old guy collapsed at a polling station in Virginia, and refused to let an ambulance take him to the hospital before he voted. [ VIA: WTVR ]
