David “DW” Smith Memorial 5K Run/Walk Is Sunday

Johnson City Police Officer, David W. Smith Jr., was tragically killed in the line of duty on March 31st, 2014.

To honor his memory, the David "DW" Smith Jr. remembrance 5K run/walk will take place this Sunday.

The 5K will start at 10AM in front of the Johnson City Police Department. You can stop by the police station to pick up a registration form or send an email to Johnsoncity5k@gmail.com.

Immediately following the run/walk, the Johnson City Police Association will be hosting a Community Fun Day at CFJ Park in Johnson City. There will be all kinds of fun things to do for the whole family!

Fun Day will include:

• Chicken BBQ
• Free carousel rides
• Face painting ($1.00/child)
• A guest appearance from 'McGruff the Crime Dog'
• Johnson City Police K-9 demonstration
• The New York State Police roll over simulator will be on display
• The Edward P. Maloney Memorial Pipe Band will be performing
• Broome County Celtic Kazoo Band will be performing
• Gymnastics demonstration
• Basket raffle's (Purchase tickets at event)

Net proceeds will benefit the DW Fund, which will cover expense of 'C.O.P.S.' retreats as well as participation of The Smith Family in National Police Week in Washington, D.C.
