Have you ever had an awkward first encounter with your significant others' parents? Here are a few topics you should  avoid to prevent this from happening again in the future

1) The intimate parts of your relationship

This one probably goes without saying, but I know there are some people out there who will still mess this up. You should never, under any circumstances, make any reference to what goes on behind the scenes with your girlfriend. Your buddies may enjoy your stories, but these people aren’t your buddies – they’re the scariest people you’ll ever meet, and they already hate you.

2) Your past 'exploits'

Just like the last one, your exaggerated tales of conquest are for your buddies only. What makes you think your girlfriend’s parents would like them too? Seriously, what about that sounds like a good idea to you? They’ll think their daughter is dating a savage caveman/shark/bear, and parents hate savage cavemen/sharks/bears. Don’t be a savage caveman/shark/bear!

3) Anything concerning your girlfriend's mom

Do you want your girlfriend and her dad to hate your guts? If so, this is a great way to make enemies out of both of them. Make any comment about her mom, no matter how 'innocent' it may seem, and this is a surefire way to make yourself the most hated person in the room. If they team up and kill you for this, the judge presiding over this case will deem that the two of them 'underreacted' and let them get off free.

4) Your lack of ambition

Her parents are going to hate you no matter what, so why give them more reasons to? Being a slacker is funny to some people, but these are not the people. They’ll immediately decide you’re nothing but a loser and regard you as not good enough for their daughter. So save yourself the trouble and keep all of your “GTA” knowledge to yourself.

5) Your 'extracurricular activities'

How many beers can you pound out in a night? Hey that’s awesome, and it will be even more awesome when her parents find out and forbid you from ever seeing their daughter again! Your best party stories are some of the worst stories to share with her parents. They don’t want to know about your bad habits, so make an exaggerated point of never letting them find out about them!

6) Anything you’ve ever done… EVER

You know what? Just don’t joke around with them. Don’t be a comedian with them because nothing you say will ever impress them. Just keep all of the stories to yourself. Speak only when spoken to. Don’t risk making enemies, and maybe, just maybe they won’t hate you.

They totally will still hate you, though.
