The holidays may be over but it's still a high travel season, especially with spring break approaching. No matter the time of year though, airlines are never cheap when you're traveling with the entire family.

Maybe you thought you were being wise by signing up for those award programs but you only have 1,500 and you need 20,000 points to receive a free hotel stay. Bummer! So what are the best way to save on traveling expenses?

Timeshares: Believe it or not, vacation rentals are less pricey than hotels.

Discounts: If you're over the age of 50 you may be eligible for AARP reward points or AAA. There's no wait like the other rewards programs! Just show your card!

Vets: If you or any of your closest family members are veterans you may be eligible for a discount.

Credit Cards: Join the rapid rewards such as the Club Carlson,Marriott Rewards or Hilton Honors. Maybe this is similar to the rewards programs but some of the credit cards allow you to make purchases at local restaurants and businesses where you can rack up those points.

Free Food: Look for hotels that offer a complimentary breakfast that way you save on food!

City Limits: The hub of the city is always the busiest making it the most expensive! Stay outside the city and save a little!

So are you ready to soak up some rays of sunshine for Spring Break now? An opportunity to travel the world and save a little money in your wallet, what more could you ask for?
