Chris Burger and Melissa Grippen of Earth Day Southern Tier, appearing on the April 18 edition of the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up talk about the 25th year for the local celebration of Mother Earth as plans are finalized for the April 25th celebration at SUNY Broome.

Burger, E.D.S.T chairman, who has been a champion of the environment in the region for decades, says the local Earth Fest celebration is one of the longest-running commemorations of Earth Day in the nation.

In addition to displays and information on recycling, reuse and reduction from a wide range of groups and businesses like auto companies to garbage collection companies and environmental groups, a free trolley will be running through the day between the Front Street Campus, the Roberson Museum and Science Center, the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier and the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park.

Melissa, who is with the zoo, talked extensively about the importance of caring for the local and global environment and helping the animals of Mother Earth.

Earth Fest is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Student Center.  Each of the three venues offer discounts for anyone with a stamp from the other sites.
