With just two weeks to go until American Idol names its next winner, the show has proven it can still offer up the drama.

Under the tutelage of guest mentor Nick Jonas, Season 16's Top 7 contestants performed two songs apiece on the May 6 episode — one was in honor of Prince, and the other was a release from each contestant's year of birth.

After a long set that included tracks that ranged from "Kiss" and "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" to "My Heart Will Go On" and "Oops!... I Did It Again," host Ryan Seacrest revealed which five contestants were moving on, and which two would have to pack up their dreams and go home.

It was good news for Gabby Barrett, Michael J. Woodard, Cade Foehner, Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe. Sadly, it was the end of the line for Jurnee and Catie Turner, the latter of whom was considered a favorite in the competition.

Still, Turner — who got knocked for forgetting her lyrics and being off-pitch — took her elimination in stride. "this is not the end for me and this is not the end of making music. who knows what the future holds? i have no idea but i hope to have you guys there right beside me," she tweeted, before jokingly adding: "am i humiliated that i missed lyrics on live television yes am i humiliated i sang off key yes am i humiliated i have a grease stain on my sweatpants already and makeup on from yesterday no."

The Top 5 will perform under the mentorship of Carrie Underwood on May 13. Then, three contestants will advance to the finale, which will air over two nights on May 20 and May 21.
