I can't speak for all parents, but as the mom of a toddler, I want to know that whoever is watching my son has a handle on what they're doing. My little guy needs constant supervision as he's curious and into everything. Whoever watches John needs to be on their toes and know how to handle whatever situation might arise.

For a lot of teens, babysitting is their first job and the American Red Cross of the Southern Tier wants to make sure they have the training and confidence needed to care for infants, work with children and deal with emergencies.

The American Red Cross’s Babysitter’s Training class is for youth ages 11 to 15 and will take place on Saturday, April 16th, at the Red Cross office at 620 East Main Street in Endicott from 9am-4pm.

The Babysitter’s Training class will include hands-on activities, videos, role-playing, take home training and discussions covering topics like diapering and feeding, bedtime and disciplinary issues, how to identify safety hazards and prevent injuries and more.

The cost of the class is $85, which includes a Babysitter’s Training Certificate from the American Red Cross, handbook and CD ROM. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch Spaced is limited and advance registration is required.
