Matty J

I am the Brand Manager for Wild 104, the Southern Tier's #1 Hit Music Station, and a DJ for over 20 years now (yikes!).  My first station was R.I.T.'s WITR in the early 90's, where I first used the air name "Matty J".  I then started an internship in Syracuse, working for "The Ragman", who gave me the air name "Jimmy Olsen" on 93Q.  UNFORTUNATELY, the nick name stuck, and I spent a good dozen years there, as an intern, then weekend part-time DJ,  overnight DJ, night-time DJ/Music Director, and finally midday DJ/Assistant Program Director.  In 2006, I got the opportunity to come down to Binghamton to run Wild 104, and I have enjoyed my time here since. I was married last summer, and am happy to say the honeymoon continues.   I enjoy hosting two team trivia nights here in Binghamton, on Tuesday nights at Applebee's on the Vestal Parkway, and on Thursday nights at Antonio's Galleria and Cafe in Endicott.  Join me some time for a trivia night! As Wild 104 Brand Manager, I am ultimately responsible for anything you hear on the radio station or see on this website.  Please email me with any comments or suggestions.  Thanks for visiting.

How To Keep Your iPhone From Telling Everyone Where You Live

Talking to Tanya and Holly today, I learned they were unaware that their iPhones could be giving out personal information without them knowing it.  iPhones, as well as other smartphones and even GPS-enabled digital cameras, embed location information in pictures taken with the GPS on.  This can be a useful and fun feature when the pictures are from famous places and locations, but what if the picture is taken at your house?  Follow these instructions, and you won't be giving strangers a road map to your house, literally.

Listen to New Hits From Pink and Maroon 5 On Wild 104 New Music Tuesday

The fourth quarter of the year tends to bring us new hits from established artists.  This practice is a throwback to the time people bought whole albums on CD or Cassette.  New singles in the Fall would translate into album purchases for holiday gifts.  Now that iTunes is the world's biggest music store, we tend to buy singles instead of albums.  The industry still likes to line up the big guns for the holiday season, bringing us new songs from Pink, and Maroon 5.  Give a listen.

$1,500 Gets You ALMOST Everything You Need to Be a DJ

This was in a catalog I received over the weekend.  'Everything You Need To Be A DJ' it says.   It's weird to have your profession distilled down to a few pieces of equipment.  It would be like a Staples ad for a calculator and a box of pencils that said 'Everything You Need To Be an Accountant'.  As someone who has some experience as a DJ, I would say there are a few more things you need that don't come in a $1,500 kit.

Louie G and C.H.O.W. Need Your Help This Weekend to Fill the Food-A-Bago With Food

I just visited Louie G out at the Food-A-Bago, and we are way behind where we were last year.  The Food-A-Bago is the Jim's RV Camper we have sitting in the parking lot of the Weis Market on Upper Front Street.  Louie G is out there collecting non-perishable food to help the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse restock their pantry after what has been a year of great need.

Get The First Answer for Tonight’s Wild 104 Team Trivia at Antonio’s Galleria and Cafe

Smart is sexy.  So while the unwashed masses head to Number 5 tonight for Tanya's martini-soaked S&M party, the real hotness will be the slightly nerdy ones who head to Antonio's tonight for TEAM TRIVIA!!!!  I'm kidding of course.  I'm sure 50 Shades of Wild will be a blast, but I also want to remind you that Wild 104's Team Trivia at Antonio's Galleria and Cafe is still very much on for tonight. Get ahead of the competition, with the answer to the first question that will be asked tonight.

A Three Hour Wait For Gas Means Things are Still a Long Way From Normal After Sandy

My wife is a TV reporter in Brooklyn.  She's had an extraordinary week, to say the least.   I have been watching some of her stories online, and she has been reporting on lots of people who's lives were instantly changed by the storm.  She told me that much of it is similar to stories she had after the flooding here in 2006; property damage that wasn't covered by insurance, and people without homes.  She's been lucky however, to be able to drive back to a home that wasn't flooded, and with electricity.  All that driving meant that Friday night she needed to get gas for her car, and that's been a whole other problem for those who were hit hardest by Sandy.
