I was talking to a guy who is interning for a big company in Conklin and asked if he thought he might like the company he’s interning for to offer him a job when he graduates college. His answer? “No, not right now.” His reply wasn't out of spite for our area or any other negative reason. It's simply because he wants to see the world first.

I applaud that young man for wanting to travel and see how others live. I told him that my wish is that my son take time before entering the workforce to travel and learn about different cultures and people. I think one of the most valuable things a person can have in life is compassion and understanding and a lot of times those traits come from stepping outside of our bubble and opening ourselves up to other experiences. I’m so thankful for the years I was able to travel before my son was born and I look forward to exploring the world with him when he gets a bit older.

According to a survey of baby boomers (Baby Boomers are people between the ages of 52 and 70 years-old), one of their biggest regrets in life is that they didn’t travel more when they were younger.

British Airways conducted the survey of 2,000 men and women and 1 in 5 said they really wish that they'd taken the time to see more of the world when they were younger.

If you’re wondering why these people didn’t travel more when they were younger, 25% of them said that work duties stopped them from traveling, while others said expenses like buying a home or car was more important to them at the time.

So, let this be a lesson- if you don't want to look back and feel regret for not seeing the world when you had the chance, find a way to make it happen!
