A woman's efforts to find a buyer to a motel near the En Joie Golf Course have been unsuccessful.

Aleya Majid had hoped someone would acquire the Red Carpet Inn in West Endicott to keep a bank from taking over the site.

But Majid said no one offered to buy the West Main Street property at a sheriff's sale, so she expects Bank One will soon take possession of the motel.

The motel was known as the Royal Coachman when it opened its doors in 1963. It was described as the first "all-electric" lodging place in Broome County.

Majid has been living in a house that's been part of the business site. She said she had been holding out hope that someone would buy the place and allow her to continue operating the business.

Now, she's waiting for an eviction letter from the bank. Majid said her future is uncertain. She said she doesn't know where she'll go or what she'll do.
