The city of Binghamton has just broken ground on the construction of a new housing project for homeless veterans in the area. The $408,000 rehabilitation project is located at 27 Pine Street, and it will have ten one-bedroom apartments inside.

WICZ-TV reports all of the construction on this building is set to be completed by February of 2017. While nearby, a block away, will be the new U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs health clinic which should open sometime in 2017 as well. That will be at 203 Court Street in Binghamton.

The housing project is owned by Opportunities for Broome, and they will manage the building as veterans move in and live in the apartments. They hope to provide assistance in job placement and substance counseling to those living in the building.

Binghamton Mayor Rich David is trying to end veteran homelessness in the area, and this is another good step in that direction.
