Binghamton Groups Awarded Money to Ease Poverty

The Binghamton area has more money to try to pull residents up from poverty.

12 projects are being funded with over 900-thousand dollars under the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative.

The awards are intended to help provide Binghamton residents with job training, promote opportunities for entrepreneurs and allow better access to services.

Binghamton is one of 16 communities in the state to be awarded ESPRI funds.

Local programs include plans by the Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network, Catholic Charites of Broome County, the Crime Victims Assistance Center and the Salvation Army. Other recipient organizations are the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition, the Broome County Urban League, Broome-Tioga NAACP Economic Development Committee, Rural Health Network of South Central New York, The Research Foundation of the State of New York, Upstate Minority Economic Alliance, WSKG Public Telecommunications Council, Binghamton Community Advocates and the United Way of Broome County.
