The re-fitting of the often flood-damaged and aging Binghamton/Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment plant is over cost and behind schedule.

Plant officials updated City and Village representatives February 4th during a quarterly meeting, saying the project cost is about $262 miillion dollars, much lower than some Democrats have projected, and is about 3 1/2 months behind schedule, mainly due to weather conditions.

Plant officials say they expect some new equipment to be installed and the flood wall finished in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, a portion of Vestal Road in the area of the sewage plant remains closed to westbound traffic with no firm reopening date announced.  That portion of the road has been closed since May, 2016.  At that time, officials had said they expected the closure to last two years.
