Endicott police say a suspicious package found at a village business prompted the deployment of the agency's bomb squad.

Officers were sent to the Runway convenience store at 431 East Main Street around 1:45 p.m. Friday.

Police chief Patrick Garey told WNBF News that the bomb squad was sent to the business "out of an abundance of caution."

The store is located at the corner of East Main Street and Vestal Avenue, just south of the Jennie F. Snapp Middle School athletic fields.

Vestal Avenue north of East Main Street was closed due to police activity. Traffic on East Main Street in front of the store was not affected. Garey asked people to avoid the area if possible.

Endicott police were assisted at the scene by New York State Police.
