The Prospect Mountain Construction Project conducted a milestone event on Thursday, September 24th.

That was when the New York State Department of Transportation Region 9 did a single controlled blast to remove the northbound and southbound Interstate 81 bridges over the Chenango River that were no longer being used.

Region 9 Public Information Director, Dave Hamburg graciously invited us to witness the blast. The NYSDOT officials shut down several roadways, cleared the area, gave a one minute warning by horn, and counted down to the controlled blast, which took down both bridges at once.

As for my reaction, taking a quote from a comedy bit on the old TV show, Second City TV, "It blowed up real good!"

For your viewing pleasure, we took video and pictures of the blast for you to enjoy.
