You would like to believe that your clothes could protect you from sun damage, but you can never be too careful. Bustle explains that while UVB rays are the ones that cause sunburns and they cannot penetrate most clothing, UVA rays can so that means you can still get some skin damage from the sun underneath your clothes.

Not all types of clothing are created equal in this case. Synthetic fabrics are better, so polyester, nylon and acrylic are better for the beach than anything cotton. The tighter the weave of the material, the less UVA rays can get underneath.

Go dark with your color choices, too. Your clothes will absorb the sun's rays if they are darker, reducing your skin's UV exposure. And unfortunately, stay dry because hen your clothes get wet, their SPF value lowers.

You lather yourself in sunblock hoping that will protect you enough on the beach, but you can never be too protected when it comes to your skin and the UVA/UVB rays from the sun. Stay safe this summer!
