CBS Evening News Anchor Jeff Glor on WNBF Radio
Jeff Glor, the new anchor of the "CBS Evening News," gained some of his early experience in broadcast journalism in Binghamton.
Glor, who began anchoring the program on Monday, joined CBS News in 2007. He grew up in Tonawanda in western New York.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program on Wednesday, Glor said he watched a "decent amount of news" when he was young. But when he began his studies at Syracuse University, he was thinking of a career in dentistry.
Glor said after he took his first chemistry course, he decided "that was not going to work" and transferred into the journalism school.
Glor did internships at a Syracuse television station and at WBNG in Binghamton. He said he would drive to WBNG late Friday night or early Saturday morning. He said he would "work all weekend out in the field as reporter-producer-cameraman" gathering elements for the weekend newscasts.
Glor was offered a job a WBNG but he wound up accepting a position at WSTM in Syracuse. He then worked at a Boston station before he was hired by CBS News.
LISTEN to the Jeff Glor discuss his early years and the future of the "CBS Evening News" in the Binghamton Now interview. The live conversation aired on December 6, 2017.
