The New York State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash in Oneida County that has claimed the life of a police officer who was responding to a call.

Officials say a Village of Whitesboro patrol vehicle was hit by a Chevrolet Avalanche at the intersection of Oriskany Boulevard and Westmoreland Street in the village just before 8 p.m. April 11.

The Police Officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica and was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Avalanche was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Utica with non-life threatening injuries.

State Police said they expected to have more information to release April 12.
