Charli XCX is taking on the music industry with her recent rise to fame, but the 21-year-old pop star insists she’s doing it her own way.

“Having a hit would be cool but my goal isn’t to be No. 1. I don’t care if I sell one copy or millions,” she said to the Daily Star of her latest single ‘Boom Clap.’ “I just want to be written about in 50 years' time as someone who helped make pop cooler than it is now.”

The British singer has played a decent role in the pop charts the last few years, lending her voice on hit songs such as Icona Pop’s ‘I Love It’ and Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy.’ Her next album is due out later this year, and armed with her new LP, Charli says she wants to “f--- up the music industry, not make it a prettier place.”

But don’t let her tough words fool you — her sound is still pure pop.

She shared: “I’m a fan of Britney Spears and the Spice Girls, so my heart lies in pop, but I want to do it my way.”

We're rooting for ya, Charli!
