Everyone would like their kid(s) to grow up to be respectful, responsible, clean, hard working, etc. And one very good way to teach a lot of those traits at a young age is with chores!!!! We all HATED them as kids, but as we've gotten older and had children of our own, we realize the value in a good chore.

But it can be difficult to determine what some of the right chores are for your little one, especially as they get older when chores should be more advanced. So a nifty new list just came out to help you guide which chores should be allocated for which ages!

Ages 2-3 - While your kiddo is young, it's important to not do every little thing for them so that getting them to help out when they're older isn't a losing battle.

  • Put laundry in the hamper
  • Put their toys away.
  • Throw diapers into trash.

Ages 4-7 - As they make their way through preschool and into grade school, here are a few things they can manage:

  • Help set the table.
  • Make their bed.
  • Help put away groceries.
  • Help clear the dinner table.
  • Pack up their backpack for school.
  • Sweep floors.

Ages 8-10 - Things they helped with before can likely be done by them independently now, and responsibilities can extend from things that affect just them to things that help the entire family (like setting the table for dinner).

  • Clean their room.
  • Set the table.
  • Vacuum.
  • Feed the family pet.
  • Help wash the car
  • Take out the trash.
  • Rake leaves.

Age 11 and Older - All kids develop differently, but as your child ages from 11 and on, chores like doing laundry and packing lunches are things your tween and teen should be capable of in time.

  • Clean their bathroom.
  • Wash dishes.
  • Mow the lawn.
  • Shovel snow.
  • Do laundry.
  • Watch younger siblings for short periods of time

& of course there are many of chores we can sort out! But for now, I hope this helps divide up the duties in your household!!
