Christina Aguilera Calls Simon Cowell a ‘D—,’ Scorns ‘Buttf— People’
"Sh-- happens, man. This is the business. It's not going to be all cute and pretty and tied up in a little bow," warned Christina Aguilera at one point during her keynote Q&A for the music conference jointly sponsored by Billboard Magazine and the Hollywood Reporter yesterday (Oct. 25).
It was a statement that set the tone for many of her remarks during a chat in which she, as THR put it, "dropped some f-bombs, spoke plainly about her career, and even belted out a bit of a classic tune."
Of course, Aguilera discussed her upcoming new album, 'Lotus,' saying its songs find her "embracing the woman that I've grown to be and embracing myself, full circle, as a pop star." Saying her stint as a mentor on 'The Voice' "has been inspiring and inspires me," she said it's "made me come full circle and appreciate the journey of the last decade-plus. I chose 'Lotus' because it represents the unbreakable flower that stands the test of time."
As you might imagine, 'The Voice' was a popular topic during the Q&A, and Aguilera was happy to oblige, saying her show offers viewers a glimpse of "real, raw talent" and weighing in on the plethora of other singing competition series by musing, "I've not actually seen a full episode of any of the other music shows. I saw the commercials early on of 'American Idol' of Simon being a d---. I was like, 'Man, that's not what it's about!' I didn't want to treat people like that. I wanted to do 'The Voice' to show that we can be positive. We don't have to knock people down."
And speaking of being positive, Aguilera says she and her fellow 'Voice' mentors are one big happy family: "Everyone knows me and Adam [Levine] can bicker and get on each other's case. Cee-Lo is just cool, he comes from a real artistic value place. Blake [Shelton] is just a good old time. He's become my big bro."
Happy vibes aside, Aguilera saved her most stinging criticism for online writers who, in her mind, exist only to sling unqualified barbs. "I don't read blogs," she scoffed. "It's just God-knows-who in Buttf--- wherever writing hate sh--. You can't take it seriously. I'm sure you've all been hated on at some point by buttf--- people."
