The group known as VINES - Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments - will soon begin construction at a site on the South Side of the village of Johnson City.

The project is being developed in conjunction with Family Enrichment Network and the village with support from the Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation.

VINES executive director Amelia LoDolce said the garden is planned on a vacant lot at 52 Sherman Street.

Family Enrichment Network acquired a house on the site in 2015 with the intention of renovating the structure. The building was in such poor condition it was demolished and the site was cleared. The garden project will be jointly built and managed by both organizations.

VINES has been working to create community gardens in the region for the past decade. The organization is launching a campaign to have 20 gardens in the area by the end of 2020.
