If you are one of the many New York State residents that suffers from serious health problems that can be aggravated by extreme heat, then you are in luck.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that there is $3 million available for New Yorkers who need to purchase air conditioners.

If you think you qualify for assistance in purchasing an air conditioner because of your health issues, you can apply now for cooling assistance now through the Home Energy Assistance Program.

To qualify for the for this cooling assistance program, applicants must meat HEAP guidelines. These guidelines vary by household size. They also require at least one person per household suffers from a documented condition that can be triggered by heat.

This cooling assistance program will operate on a first come, first serve basis. Your local Department of Social Services will accept applications up until August 31st or until the programs funding runs out.
