Another redevelopment plan is brewing for a former Endicott Johnson factory building in Johnson City.

The village has been awarded state funds to stablize the abandoned structure at 19 Avenue B.

Local officials have proposed using the site as a craft beverage production and canning foundry.

Now, Johnson City Mayor Greg Deemie says another concept is being discussed. He says developer Isaac Anzaroot has expressed interest in utilizing the property in conjunction with a project at a neighboring site.

Anzaroot is working to convert the massive EJ Victory Building into a senior housing complex.

Deemie says he has met with Anzaroot to talk about his ideas for the Avenue B building.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, the mayor said Anzaroot expressed interest in using the property as a staging area while the Victory Building renovation is underway.

Deemie said after work on the senior housing facility is completed, Anzaroot suggested the Avenue B site could include a community center.

The mayor said the developer indicated other services or amenities might be pursued that would be useful to the new residents who'll be living nearby.

Deemie expressed interest in Anazaroot's ideas. One drawback is the alternative use likely would not create as many jobs as have been projected if the property was redeveloped to support craft beverage businesses.

Johnson City is to receive $942,000 from the state for the initial phase of redeveloping the Avenue B building.

Efforts to contact Anzaroot Friday were unsuccessful.
