Devils Moving AHL Affiliate to Binghamton

Binghamton will be home to the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL New Jersey Devils starting with the 2017-18 season.

Tom Mitchell, the executive vice president of the Binghamton Senators, announced the move Tuesday afternoon.

The relocation was approved by the AHL board of governors on Monday.

The move by the Devils follows last September's announcement that the Ottawa Senators planned to shift their affiliation from Binghamton to Belleville, Ontario.

The new American Hockey League team will be called the Binghamton Devils.

Mitchell also said an agreement has been reached with Broome County to maintain the AHL presence at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena through the 2021-22 season.

Mitchell said the local operating group is committed to providing "the best environment" for the Devils organization.

Mitchell acknowledged there were plenty of issues that needed to be resolved before the formal announcement of the affiliation agreement could be made. But, he said, he had expected things to ultimately work out to fulfill his pledge to local hockey fans that the AHL would remain in Binghamton.

The logo and jersey unveiling, along with more information about the Binghamton Devils, are expected to be announced within the next few months.
