When I was a teenager and was learning how to drive, my dad taught me how to change the oil in my car, top off all the fluids and change a tire. He wanted to make sure I was safe on the roads and didn't have to rely on someone else when a problem arose.

Not to mention, this is before there were cell phones, so if you needed to change a tire, it's not like you could call for help! A new survey found that at least half of us are completely don't know the most basic car repairs and maintenance.

  • 58% of us don't know how to change our own oil or even top off our oil.
  • 49% don't know how to change a tire.
  • 29% don't know how to refill the washer fluid.  Which let's face it...is very simple!
  • 1% of us don't know how to pump GAS.

How do you rate according to this survey? I'll be honest, I'm not sure I could change a tire. If I absolutely had to I probably could manage but I think I'd struggle with that one!
