The familiar site of the building that for decades housed the Ken Wilson Chevrolet dealership showroom in Vestal is expected to vanish soon.

The Vestal Parkway building, which was constructed in 1964, has been viewed as a historic structure because of what's been described as its "stylish geometric concrete roof."

The property just west of Sycamore Road has been on the market for years. But it now appears the site will be sold.

Patricia Weaver, Ken Wilson's sister, has owned the site. She said the property is under contract but she declined to discuss the prospective buyer or what is planned for the site.

Weaver said the family was "all excited" when her brother opened the car showroom, which had been designed by James Mowry.

While she is prepared to sell the property, Weaver conceded "it'll be terrible" to see the unique building torn down.

The showroom building and the adjacent facilities have not been used for several years. Sections of the showroom have been boarded up because of broken windows.

A source told WNBF News two restaurants, including a Chili's Bar and Grill, are expected to be opened at the site. The development also is to include three retail stores.

The property is located adjacent to the Town Square Mall.
