The blaze at 3654 Watson Boulevard was reported around 5:15 p.m. Thursday.

When a state police unit arrived at the scene, the garage area of the structure was fully involved.

Flames quickly spread to the upper portions of the wood-frame building.

Firefighters sprayed water on a car as the blaze spread to the front section of the vehicle, which was parked in a driveway adjacent to the garage.

Watson Boulevard was closed between Hooper Road and Valley Street because of fire and police vehicles.

Neighbors said they did not believe anyone was inside the house when the fire broke out.

The blaze was reported by a passing motorist. Thick, black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles early Thursday evening.
