Additional Information

For the first time in several years, Bald Eagles nesting at the Nature Center have built up their nest to a huge size. People will have an opportunity to see this impressive nest, the eagles and more at Eagle Day at the Nature Center. As well as the eagles on the Vosburg Neck of the Susquehanna, see a Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle up close during a live raptor presentation.

Eagle Day is a family event this year. Children and adults will have a chance to create an eagle craft, play a Fill the Bill game, and match birds with their nests and eggs. Children will make an eagle’s nest to see just how large they can be – sometimes as large as 5 feet wide and 3 feet deep. Some nests have been recorded as large as 9 feet wide and 20 feet deep.

Everyone will be excited to see the actual Bald Eagle nest on the Susquehanna River. Joe DeMarco, board president and local birder, will be on hand to show the nest through a scope and discuss the birds and their habitats. After the stations, families will enjoy learning more about eagles and other raptors during speaker Bill Streeter’s presentation.

Eagle Day is Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m. People may call 570-836-3835 to register. The fee is $5 per person. The presentation will be at the pavilion, and the stations will be in the woods and along the trails. The event will happen come rain or shine.

The Nature Center encourages the preservation of the natural environment by providing educational opportunities and recreational activities for all ages.
