A group that offers a wide variety of services to families in Broome, Chenango and Delaware Counties is featured on the weekly, local public affairs program: Southern Tier Close Up.

Family Planning of South Central New York Chief Executive Officer, Debra Marcus talks about the testing, counseling and educational programs offered throughout the region, often free of charge to qualified families and individuals.

Some of the lesser-known services include administrating the HPV Vaccine, Hepatitis screenings, annual exams for women and men and counseling on a number of issues.  Foreign language interpreting is also available.

Family Planning of South central New York has offices in Binghamton, Oneonta, Norwich, Sidney and Walton.

Marcus says the programs offered by the group become even more vital when dealing with an area that is largely rural and has less access to professionals normally based in more urban settings.

Marcus also talks about the challenges for the agency given the changing political environment locally, regionally, state-wide and up to the federal level.

More information about Family Planning of South Central New York, Inc. can be found at www.fpscny.org as well as on facebook and twitter.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Sunday at 6am on 99.1 The Whale.
