The house where the fire originated reportedly was vacant. Firefighters attacked the blaze from the outside but were unable to keep it from spreading to another two-family house. The two structures are only a few feet apart.

The fire in the neighboring building was declared under control around 1:30 p.m.

Although a Binghamton Fire Department ambulance was staged near the scene, no injuries were reported.

Robinson Street was closed between Emmett Street and Wales Avenue while firefighters were on the scene.

There was no immediate indication as to what may have caused the fire.

This story has been updated to reflect the fire occurred in a neighborhood on Binghamton's North Side, not on the East Side as indicated in the original account.
