Fire Damages Johnson City Apartment House

For the second time in eight months, a blaze has struck a large apartment house on a block in Johnson City.

The latest fire happened at 9-11 North Broad Street. The incident was across the street from an apartment building damaged by a March blaze.

Authorities say the fire was reported at 9:13 a.m. Tuesday. When firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the first floor doorway of the 2-and-one-half story structure.

Flames extended up the wall and across the ceiling of an apartment's living room. The blaze was declared under control after a few minutes.

Fire damage was confined to the room where the blaze originated. There was smoke and water damage throughout the building. No injuries were reported.

All eight apartments in the building were supposed to be vacant. An investigator said it was believed renovation work had started in the structure.

One man was injured in a two-alarm fire at a three-story nine-unit apartment building at 10-12 North Broad Street on April 12.
