Fish for Free in New York State This Weekend
If you've never been, it can be hard to understand why people love fishing so much. However, if you ask someone who's a fan of fishing, they'll tell you that it's not just about snagging a huge catch. Not at all.
So what is it that lures people to the water with a fishing pole in hand? I'm the odd one out in my family, the only one who doesn't fish, and so I asked my husband what it is about fishing that he loves so much. My husband explained that part of the fun is that it's exciting to see what you might catch. It could be a big fish, or a little fish, or maybe no fish at all, but the anticipation is exciting. He didn't say so, but I think fishing also helps my husband escape from the responsibilities of being an adult for a little while and to relax and clear his mind.
If you're interested in giving fishing a try, this Saturday, November 11th, New York State is allowing anyone to fish in the fresh or marine waters in the state with no fishing license required. You have a huge pick of places to fish because all 7,500 lakes and 50,000 miles of rivers and streams in the state will be open for fishing.
If you're not sure where to fish, the Department of Environmental Conservation's fishing page has a fantastic list. Be sure to bundle up though because temperatures aren't expected to be higher than the 40's.
