Maybe it's just because the grass is always greener somewhere else (until you get there and it's actually not so green),  but we all tend to complain about where we live.

Off the top of my head, there are a few things I've heard people in this area complain about even though they probably really don't need to, or won't take some action to make it better.

    The Weather

Wait 10 minutes and the weather will change in Binghamton. Is it that bad? Winter can be brutal if you don't engage in winter activities, but many do, and the snow and cold are awesome for that person. Spring, summer and fall are really quite nice here, and so what if we may get a bit more rainfall than other cities?

    There's Nothing To Do

    Sure there is.
Take sports for example. Go watch a game from the Binghamton Mets, Binghamton Senators, BU/SUNY Broome sports teams and local high school sports teams.
Parks -- we've got lots of them, along with the Binghamton Zoo and six carousels.
Festivals - No summer weekend goes by without at least one happening in the area, and they aren't limited to just summertime.

    Traffic

Really? I find this a bit odd. Maybe since I've traveled a lot around the country and have experienced much worse traffic and much longer traffic jams (do we really have any of those?) I will agree there is some road rage going on here. Construction season can cause some delays (all for the better good), but overall, I don't believe there is any cause to complain about the traffic in the Binghamton area.

    Binghamton Is Dying

I used to hear this a lot, and still do from time to time, but there is a lot going on downtown and beyond. For example, look at the new businesses cropping up. Thanks, in part, to Binghamton University and SUNY Broome who I think are a big part of the future of this community. The students are embracing the area, and spending their money here. We should, too. For example, just look at the different types of restaurants we now have. You can find almost any type of food available right here, and it's good!

    No Jobs In Binghamton

I guess it depends on what you want to do. Yes, the job market can be tough, but Binghamton is not alone. There are good jobs to be had in this area, and I think it will get better. For example, BU and SUNY Broome are growing, and so is the medical field. If there's nothing here that fits what you want to do, stop complaining and go find it elsewhere. Find what makes you happy and go for it, even if it's not in the Binghamton area.
