Several people were injured when a pickup truck slammed into the side of a sedan in the town of Binghamton.

Authorities say the crash happened around 2:10 p.m. Sunday on Hawleyton Road, a short distance south of the city line.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the truck was northbound near Lone Maple Farms when the car pulled onto the roadway.

Investigators say the driver of the pickup truck was not able to avoid the collision. The truck struck the driver's side of the sedan.

Four people who were in the car sustained serious injuries. A rear seat passenger was ejected from the vehicle. They were taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. Their conditions were not available Monday afternoon.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

Hawleyton Road was closed for three hours for the crash investigation.
