Doctors Used Man's Forearm Skin to Rebuild His Tongue

Modern medicine is really amazing with the things they can do! This is an amazing story with an odd side effect from the surgery doctors performed on this man.David Billings, who is a 48 year old man living in England, went to the doctor over a year ago because he started having trouble swallowing. Sadly they found a cancerous tumor on the right side of his tongue.

Luckily for David they were able to remove it before the cancer spread. But, he had trouble talking, since a big piece of his tongue was missing.

So a surgeon came up with the idea to rebuilt his tongue by using a skin graft from his forearm. And it worked! Well sort of.

That part of his tongue that they rebuild is still numb, and of course he doesn't have taste buds there, but on the bright side he can talk again and that's what he was really struggling with before. But there is one rather weird side effect her has to deal with because of all this...since the skin was from his arm which has hair on it....well it still grows hair so now he has to shave his tongue now!

I'm sure he's just thrilled to have the ability to talk with ease again. What a neat story!
