A garbage truck fueled by natural gas exploded in Hamilton, NJ causing damage to four houses. Could you imagine watching that scene unfold in front of your home? Scary!

This video hits a little too close to home for me since February 1 marked the 9 year anniversary of the day our family’s pick-up truck spontaneously combusted in front of our house. I remember my father getting home late from work and being very upset that he couldn’t park in the driveway because it was full of cars belonging to my brothers’ friends – they had gone skiing.

About an hour later, I heard a car horn. It was snowing so I thought maybe the plows were out and honking that the car was in the way. I looked out the window and immediately noticed smoke billowing out from the front of the truck. 40 minutes later, when the firefighters arrived, the entire cab of the truck was engulfed in flames. My parents and I were huddling in the kitchen because my father had just filled up the gas tank on the way home from work and he was concerned about the truck possibly exploding once the fire reached that far back. Thankfully the firefighters arrived before the fire reached the gas tank, but the truck and plow were a total loss.

My parents did get a new truck, and my hilarious older brother christened it with flame decal sticker above the front left wheel well (because that’s where the fire started in the old truck). Check it out in the picture below!

Thankfully, no one was hurt in either incident.
