I am pretty sure that every married guy has been on the receiving end of this phrase. And, for some reason it works every time.

When I do something stupid or wrong...which does happen from time to time, I expect to get yelled at and then have everyone move on. But, hearing certain words really get to me!

According to scientist Gerben Van Kleff, Ph.D., he says that expressing disappointment may be your best negotiating tactic in getting what you want. In a recent Dutch study, people making deals with self-centered opponents were significantly more likely to get their way when they acted disappointed than when they showed irritation or wore a poker face.

Disappointment signals that you may walk away, so people might make concessions to prevent the negotiation from falling apart, says study author Gerben Van Kleff, Ph.D.

How many times have you done something wrong and your wife or parents say, "I'm disappointed in you?" Hearing those words really make me feel worse!
