Five couples enter, only one will leave in this ‘Glee’ episode devoted to breakups. With the majority of the cast of characters in committed relationships, season four was due for some shake-ups and breakups, giving the plot some much needed tension before its month long break.

Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) are the first to get the axe as Blaine admits to hooking up with someone else due to loneliness. He tries to patch things up the next day but a visibly hurt Kurt is ready to move on ... or so he says. Breakups aren’t always forever in the world of television.

Three splits occur on school grounds, with Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany (Heather Morris) separating semi-amicably before they do something they regret like the other long-distance couples, while Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith) part ways in the auditorium where they previously got engaged. Much less painful is the Kitty (Becca Tobin) and Jake (Jacob Artist) split, but the brevity was appreciated.

The only couple to survive? The adults. Will (Matthew Morrison) and Emma (Jayma Mays) end the episode still engaged, but on rocky terms when he asks Emma to go to Washington with him when he joins the Blue Ribbon Panel to improve the arts. She finds the request unfair since she would have to give up her own life while he got to fulfill his goals.

What will November hold for the newly single characters?
