Not feeling empowered or believing in yourself are two things that can drag you down before you even know it. Bustle says that you might have some habits that can lower your self-esteem and you may not even know that's what is happening.

  • Having poorly defined boundaries can hurt your self-esteem if your respect is violated, but you don't feel like you can speak up about it. If your time or space can not be treated with care from someone else, it may take its' toll on you.
  • Being too harsh with yourself and expecting perfection when perfection is just not possible can wear on you when you keep letting yourself down because of your impossible standards that you try to hold yourself to.
  • Comparing yourself to others is something that I'm sure we are all guilty of, but cut it out! You are you and they are them and if you think for a second that they are somehow better than you are, they might very well be thinking the same way about you being better than they are. We all have insecurities, and comparing ourselves to others only drives those insecurities in further. Cut it out!

Our self-esteem can be raised or torn down quicker than anything else in the right situations. Breaking habits that hurt our self-esteem is probably some of the best things that we can do for ourselves.
