13 community-based organizations and work-sites are being recognized for adopting healthy food policies as Broome County continues to rank near the bottom of healthy counties in New York State.  Broome is put at 55 out of 62 counties in the 2016 statistics.

The Broome County Health Department’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grants allowed $500 sub-awards to be used by the winning agencies to implement their healthy food policies.

The CHSC grants are part of a five year initiative from the New York State Department of Health targeting high-needs schools and communities and looks to reduce diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases.

The Broome Health Department is currently looking for additional community based organizations and worksites to make changes for a healthy workplace
