Texting is a tricky thing. You never really know the tone of someone's message from a text. They could be joking, serious, sarcastic or rude. A lot of conflicts have happened from misunderstandings from text messaging.

I found a study that was done right in our backyard at Binghamton University. There is a way to make your text messages seem more sincere. Don't let them end them with a period. Period.

After all, that's what jerks do. At least according to a new study out of Binghamton University. Researchers showed 126 undergraduates a bunch of texts featuring an invitation and a reply.

Participants rated replies that were properly punctuated with a period as less sincere. That perception did not apply to handwritten notes, which were also part of the study. Lead researcher Celia Klin explianed: "Texting is lacking many of the social cues used in actual face-to-face conversations.

When speaking, people easily convey social and emotional information. Thus, it makes sense that texters rely on what they have available to them -- emoticons, deliberate misspellings that mimic speech sounds, and, according to our data, punctuation." (Washington Post)
