I can tell you with absolute certainty, that if you go grocery shopping hungry, you will make unhealthy purchases.

Your best bet, is to shop for food after a meal. But did you know that how you pay for groceries can also effect what you buy?

Researchers at Binghamton University (Go Bearcats!), found that using a credit or debit card to pay for groceries make people more likely to buy unhealthy food and make impulse purchases.

Paying with cash is psychologically more painful than credit card or debit card payments. This pain of payment can curb the impulsive responses to buy unhealthy food items.
