Human Remains Found In River In Port Dickinson

Authorities say human remains were discovered in the Chenango River near the Binghamton-Port Dickinson line.
Lieutenant Benjamin Harting of the Broome County Sheriff's Office said the report to the 911 Center was received at 1:54 p.m. Tuesday. He said the remains were found by a man who had been walking along the riverbank.
The Port Dickinson police department and a sheriff's deputy were sent to the scene.
The remains were located a few yards from a house in the 600 block of Chenango Street.
The scene is in the village of Port Dickinson, a short distance north of the city of Binghamton border.
Sheriff's office detectives were being assisted by investigators from the New York State Police.
A deputy coroner arrived at the scene shortly after 4 p.m. She was escorted to the riverbank by police investigators. A forensic post-mortem exam is planned for Wednesday.
