If you don't think that you have anything in common with your significant other, you might be right, or you might not be thinking of some of the deeper values that you two share together. Bustle says that there are certain things that partners need to have in common in order to work.

  • The same core values such as religion and politics, while you don't have to share the same religion necessarily, having a belief (or not) is something that you should have in common.
  • A mutual agreement about loyalty and what loyalty means to both of you. If one partner has a different definition for infidelity than the other one, it may make being loyal harder for one person than the other.
  • What your five-year plan might look like and hopefully that includes your partner! If your plan is drastically different than your significant other's plans than you may want to sit down and discuss the future together.

You and your partner may not agree on the same kind of music that you like to listen to, but deep-rooted ideals like loyalty and religion should be similar for both of you if you want to make the relationship work.
