If the holidays are when you'll be meeting your significant other's parents for the first time, you might be too nervous to really to yourself. Bustle has a few tips on how you can impress the parents while still showing them who you are as well.

  • Think about what you want to get out of it when you meet the parents for the first time. Are you trying to seek their approval? Are you looking to bond with them? Decide what this first meeting is suppose to mean to the two of you.
  • Ask questions which will show that you are genuinely interested in meeting them. This will also help to keep the spotlight off of you if you are worried about the kinds of questions they might ask you.
  • Keep it light because you might get uncomfortable at some point being in a room of people you don't know, but remember the point of the evening is to get to know them, and for them to get to know you. Don't be overwhelmed. Next year, they'll be like your own family.

While this is definitely a big moment for your relationship, remember that you and your significant other are not dating each other's families, so if the first meeting doesn't go over as well as you want it to, there is always next time!
