A Brooklyn man accused of gunning down a Binghamton man as he played basketball in 2017 will spend 25 years to life in prison.

22 year old Jabari Ashe was sentenced for the murder of 26 year old Tyquan Gumbs on Fayette Street April 28, 2017.  In addition to murder, Ashe’s sentence for weapon possession will run concurrently.

During sentencing, Gumbs’ family offered emotional statements and Judge Joseph Cawley commented on Ashe’s cold lack of compassion, kicking Gumbs’ body after shooting him.

Ashe was convicted in March of the slaying, which police had said had been in retaliation for the shooting death of Ashe’s friend, Brandon Hernandez, outside an after-hours club on Orton Avenue weeks earlier.
