Join Tanya Saturday For A Room to Heal’s 5K and Family Fun Walk
This year is the third annual A Room to Heal 5K and Family Fun Walk! It’s going to be Saturday, May 31st at Otsiningo Park from 8-11am. I’ve had the privileged of attending all three years and it is one of my favorite events! Their is lots of fun family activities, refreshments and TONS of prizes. If you plan on attending, make sure to wear your pajamas because it’s a big pajama party too.
Let me tell you a little about A Room To Heal. It was started by two local mothers who wanted to make a difference in the Binghamton, NY area. One of the mothers, Linda had a son that was diagnosed with leukemia. Thankfully her son is doing well now and leading a healthy, normal life. But both of these mothers felt passionate about the need for children to have a calming, peaceful and uplifting environment in order to heal. And that’s how A Room To Heal was born in 2005. Their mission is to create a healing environment in the homes of children affected by serious medical conditions in Broome County and the surrounding area.
Just imagine some of these children have to live very isolated, maybe not being able to attend school or have friends over to play. A Room To Heal comes in and creates a peaceful, fun, clean, nurturing space for these children. After researching they found that studies show that healing environments may lead to: faster patient recoveries, reduced pain, fewer cases of infection, greater patient satisfaction and reduced stress among parents and caregivers. Good environments make us feel better, and feeling better is the key to getting better. So giving these children and their families these rooms are so important.
