The Ultimate Fighting Championship organization says it has stripped Endicott native, Jon “Bones” Jones of his UFC light heavyweight title and suspended the fighter indefinitely.

The move comes after Jones was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident in New Mexico.

Jones had previously been treated in rehab after testing positive for drugs.

Jones was due to defend his title for an unprecedented ninth time, but is being replaced by Daniel Cormier in the May 23rd fight against Anthony Johnson in Las Vegas.

Jones tweeted last night following the UFC decision that he has a lot of soul searching to do and apologized to “everyone I’ve let down.”
