Kanye West Honors Nelson Mandela’s Legacy on Twitter
In a series of tweets, Yeezy paid respect to Mandela, whose nickname was Madiba, and his legacy. The rapper also wanted to clear up media reports that claim he said that he’s "the next Mandela."
"I’d like to address the false stories and noise that have been engineered by the media," he tweeted. "Despite recent media reports, I've never said anything to dishonor or trivialize the life or transition of one of the most inspiring leaders."
West is referring to a parody website, which posted a fictional story of the rapper proclaiming that he’s going to be bigger than Mandela.
"I am the next Nelson Mandela," the website falsely reported of West’s comments. "I'm only 36 years old, and when I look at everything I've accomplished, it's the only comparison that makes any sense. By the time I'm 95, I'm going to be a bigger hero than he ever was."
Of course, the mainstream media picked up on the story and reported it as fact without really checking the source.
Nevertheless, West is among a slew of celebrities who have mourned the loss of Nelson Mandela on Twitter. It’s good to see him recognize such an important leader of our historical times.
